Sailboat in Le Havre Harbor - France, circa 1860 Photographer:
Claude-Marie Ferrier Ref:
SK03550
The French photographer Claude-Marie Ferrier was one of the pioneers of glass stereographs: albumen-on-glass negatives which, when seen through a viewer, produced startling 3-D images that fascinated the likes of Queen Victoria at the Great Exhibition of 1851 and still fascinate us today. This photograph, produced from an albumen-on-glass negative, shows a sailboat in the port of Le Havre in northern France and attests to the fact that Ferrier was just as adept at taking poetic images as he was at creating startling new technologies.
