Bay of Opunohu - Moorea, circa 1910 Photographer:

The South Pacific island of Moorea, located 17 kilometers from it better known sister island of Tahiti, has long been known for its expansive beauty. In this image, the French photographer Lucien Gauthier attempted to capture a part of that beauty. A single pirogue skims the calm waters of the lagoon while the jagged peak of Mount Mouaroa, known as Dent au Requin (Shark’s Tooth) to the locals, rises in the misty distance.
