Sioux Chief Hollow Horn Bear - United States, 1898 Photographer:
Frank Rinehart Ref:
SK08825
This exquisite portrait of the Sioux Chief Hollow Horn Bear in full headdress was taken by the American photographer Frank Rinehart during the Indian Congress in the fall of 1898. One of a series of over 500 different photographs of American Indian leaders taken by Rinehart (who was working in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution), this image preserves a sense of the 19th century culture and traditions of one of the original peoples of the Great Plains region of the United States.
